Rise of the Planet of the Apes (new movie release)
As its title suggests, Rupert Wyatt Rise of the Planet of the Apes will be the foundation for a new franchise of films from science fiction-were to land in which humans and super-intelligent battle for supremacy of the apes. His task is to move from the area in two hours and with a minimum of gullibility to explain exactly how our friends could come to us, Simian to displace about the animal kingdom. The script has been addressed at least partially in the Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, the fourth entry in the canon of the time confused and distorted the original series, "and was inspired during the film by Wyatt conquest, it is in no way a remake. However, neither is related in some way to Tim Burton underwhelming 2001 Entry. (And thank God for that.)
As the climb begins, as with many major disasters in the world, with the actions of people highly irresponsible. Will Rodman (James Franco) is a geneticist of the amazing talent and questionable ethics, which works in a trendy San Francisco biotechnology company called Gen-Sys (subtle!). His efforts to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease produce has an ulterior motive: His father (John Lithgow) is suffering, and is about to enter its final phase. Will is about to break when one of his subjects chimps are doing well, apesh * t, resulting in correspondingly ruthless CEO of his company, Steven Jacobs (David Oyelowo, brave spitting lines like "I run a business, not a zoo!") payable to the population research of chimpanzees all wound up.
Will the execution of the warrant is busy dark when he discovered that a chimpanzee test related to sleep offspring that he not bring himself to. Instead, he and his girlfriend primatologist, Caroline (Frieda Pinto, beautiful and unnecessary), partners in terribly bad decision, decide, the chimpanzees, to raise as her own child, calling him Caesar. Having inherited his mother's genetic mutations, he shows signs of advanced intelligence, and quickly developed a close relationship with his adoptive parents, people. But Caesar is becoming too fast native habitat, and ultimately must be a monkey "sanctuary" that are actually shipped anything but.
At this point we are halfway through the film - and miles of apes and humans as slaves. To get back on track, director Wyatt runs a pretty bold tonal shift of the abrupt transition from what had previously been a fairly simple project Nim promised dramatization in the balls to monkeys gone wild summer action movie trailer for the film. His efforts are strongly supported by its writers, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, whose intelligent absorbed script provides just enough plausibility in the first half to make its second half crazy not only acceptable but downright enjoyable. Wyatt is a delicate balance issue, taking into account the while recognizing its inherent stupidity. (Scattered throughout the film are nods to earlier films look like Planet of the great apes, and an overview of Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments).
Stupidity apparently accelerated in the course of the second half of the Rise, as a plot to escape from his misery Caesar Dickens, revenge on his captors and his cartoonishly evil ape-like revolution in the streets. And it only gets crazier from there - the third act is basically a wet dream PETA. As cautionary tales go, the climb on the alert, as they come.
Andy Serkis, who does all the work performance capture for Caesar is performed, is a marvel in the role, but there remains the question of how the loan between him and the technicians at Weta Digital shoulders should be distributed, the "paint" the tone CG characteristics. And make no mistake, Caesar is a lot of character - as well rounded and fully formed and convincing as they come, and simply more convincing than any of its non-digital counterparts. Franco, however, is quite believable as a scientist who, despite his academic credentials, a bit clumsy (and perhaps a little disturbed), and Lithgow discusses a relatively thankless gracefully. But the real stars are all these damn, dirty apes.
